There’s a line in this song that has given me a different perspective. In the bridge it says, “Your love, it tore through the silence, waking salvation for all who call on Jesus”. The thought that silence needed to be disrupted, in a loud way, paints a picture of authority and of purpose. In the crucifixion passages in Scripture, it says that Jesus “cried out”. I don’t know about you, but if you’ve ever cried out, you know it’s not a gentle, still moment. It’s loud. It’s passionate. It’s even startling! Place yourself on that hill, just for a moment… Jesus’ friends and family are distraught. The soldiers are making a mockery. Yet, all of it seems to take a back seat the moment Jesus cries out with His last bit of strength. I imagine that everyone stopped what they were doing and beheld this King of Kings at the sound of His voice. A body hammered to a cross, a brow full of sweat and blood from a crown made of thorns, and a sign of mockery above His head. But with eyes filled past the brim with love -He breathes His last.

Have you ever had a significant moment? Something that has changed you or challenged you in a way that left you different? The idea of a single moment having the ability to change all of eternity, is really what this song is about. It is about the culmination of a man’s life, leading up to the point where He would utter a few words that would change the way the world would interact with God forever. The very thought that this man cared so very much about you and I, ( who weren’t even a twinkle in our parent’s eye, might I add) that He would bridge the gap between us and God… That He would tear the veil allowing access to Holy Spirit as our Great Helper… That He would pay the highest price because He loved us? It leaves me abundantly thankful and profoundly amazed.

Luke 23:44-46, “It was now only midday, yet the whole world became dark for three hours as the light of the sun faded away. And suddenly in the temple the thick veil hanging in the Holy Place was ripped in two! Then Jesus cried out with a loud voice, ‘Father, I surrender my Spirit into your hands.’ And he took his last breath and died.”

Your blood

Poured out from Your hands

So that I could stand

In the grace of salvation

Your flesh

Bore the weight of sin

So that love would win

In the light of Your mercy

(And) Oh, what amazing heart

What amazing love

That satisfied my debt

(And) Oh, what amazing grace

When You took my place

The King of Heaven made a way

It is finished

Death does not have the final say

You have risen

Now and forever God be praised

Now and forever God be praised

Your Son

Nailed to that tree

Upon Calvary

Greater love has no measure

The cross

That once was certain death

Is now the hope of man

Reconciled to the Father
